Post by Ray Lalleu »

Hi,

Again an active week. Again a number of short UNID transmissions, but also a few longer ones (on Tuesday: 6305,0 - 6280,2; on Sunday: 7375,0 - 6239,9).
Strange logs on Friday :
- Armadillo (tent.) on 6205 (not ROZ as reported with some doubts elsewhere),
- same music on 6300 and on 6305-6307 but not same talking above ?
Look for the details, if you can make all that clear, please...

"Strength" notes (from e.weak to V.strong) are rather S/N notes by ear, not S-meter levels.

Helllo Steve,

Sorry for your attempt with a powerful TX... I even wrote "v.weak" meaning "very weak", but I usually have an "e.weak" for "extremely weak" in my scale (also "trace with mod" is still weaker). As I explain in the final notes, my "strength" values are rather signal/noise by ear, not S meter levels.

BTW, I have no standard S-meter, only a 10 segments row. And of course, I don't see it as a signal meter, it's only a "signal+noise" meter ! And I cannot switch off the AGC.

You should note I had "CPL" noise (network over power line, from a neighbour, grrrr...). Maybe in a noise free place I would have given you a fair or good level. But here, the 48mb is plagued by those pesky PLC plugs, including one almost on 24h a day, an other one stronger but only part time, and who knows what else... I worked hard to find ways around those noises, but nothing is perfect.

There are frequencies free from PLC noise, around the amateur bands (US limits, with almost 100 kHz guard bands around those limits, even around the discrete 5 MHz frequencies).

Maybe some day I will get a better RX, but for now, it 's not realistic here.

Hope to hear you again,

best wishes and season's greetings,

Ray
