London Calling.

Post by Andy Richards »

Quite a busy weekend again with many strong signals and noise levels low enough to hear weaker stations as well.

The Orion/Supersound collaboration worked very well.Terrific signals on both 5820 and 6265.Some good music too.It would be nice to think that some of these transmissions were from a Supersound TX,but I suspect
that "Studio 1" is the Orion TX.

Good to hear Magic back, well presented multilingual programmes with a good signal.

I think Borderhunter has almost got the mod back.Sounded really good today, maybe a touch more mid and bass.

The big QSO on 6400 got a bit confusing for me,with stations coming on top of each other.
But Salaandse Boer,Universe,Scotland,VOTN,Pluto,Marconi and Aurora all involved.
I have only logged the positive ID's.

What has happened to the Italian Pirates?

Also the Irish Pirates?Others are still logging LHH but I haven't heard them this weekend, although I did catch Atlantic.

Great to hear Altrex with one of the best signals I have had from him.Always interesting music and chat.

Tower are back. Those of you that have read ALI for some years will know that I had a slight "Disagreement"with Tower a few years back. But hey, that was a long time ago.I will judge them on what they do now and not on what they did then.Nice signal, nice mod,not much splatter.
Pretty good really.
But you did come on the air on top of Orang Utan...........careful guys........you have my good will and best wishes, for now.
Please show us what you really can do,I said it years ago and I'll say it again. If you want to,you could be a great station.

Best signal of the weekend by miles was Orion/Supersound.Scotland & Borderhunter were next.
Also strong signals from Mustang,Magic,Tower & Marconi.

Hello Andy,

thanks for the logs, much appreciated. Indeed studio 1 is the ORN studio. We hope to get Supersound on air around the summer 2011. cheers for now

Powerliner was relaying Cool AM on 6285, he then moved to 6170 after being flattened by another station.

I think more stations should use the 49 metre band, below 6200, as there are a lot more clear channels there these days with so many of the big European broadcasters having left shortwave.

The other advantage is ... no utilities on the 49 mb.

Borderhunter has realised this, nice clear channel on 6175 this morning while the pirates were scrapping for free frequencies on 48 metres.

John - Thanks for that.I'm sure we all look forward to hearing Supersound from his own TX.As I said, signals on both 52 and 48 were REALLY good.

Paul(UKDXer) - You make an excellent point. All operators need to do is get to know when legal stations come on and on what frequency(Otherwise they will get flattened!)But this is certainly worth a look at for all operators.
Plenty of space out there people!Just need to be a little bit clever..........
And let us listeners know where you will be!

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the log!
BTW good idea to 'create' more space for us on shortwave, it is getting more and more busy on 48 mtrs :D

Best regards from the other side of the Northsea,
