London Calling.

Post by Andy Richards »

Being lucky enough not to be working over Christmas and New Year I have had more time to listen to Medium Wave.
As usual with me,there are a lot of UNID's.
I do have a problem identifying these Dutch stations.Easy when they have a name like Barcelona,Monte Carlo or Napoleon. But more difficult when they have a (To me) strange Dutch name.Having said that I never have any trouble identifying Klaas Snoek or Bandung.
Mind you,his strong signal and distinctive voice helps!
As you can see in the logs both Bandung and Barones were busy over the period with very strong signals.
Some signals were breaking over really early in the day.As early as 1500 some days.
There was also something on regularly on 1512.From the Dutch AM board I have seen that this station has a name of Arabian something......can anyone give any more info on this station?Like a name? They were very, very strong at times even stronger than Bandung & Barones!

Out of interest, does anyone know what the station on 1701 is?I'm guessing it is legal.Speech is in German but music I have heard is often Arabic sounding.Turkish maybe?

Hi Andy,

I saw this on another blog which might be your mystery station: http://hkdx2.blogspot.com/2009/12/zende ... nd-on.html

He also has a couple of audio clips on the site.

Thanks Paul,

That certainly sounds like the station I heard.

Can anyone else tell us more about Zender Zanussi?

Alan,

I'm sure I speak for all of us here in welcoming you to Alfa Lima!

We don't have any logs from Belfast at present and so I'm sure your logs will
be of great interest to listeners and operators alike.
