Logs from dave Valko 6 and 7-11 (USA Dunlo New York)

Post by alfred »

7 NOVEMBER 2004: Conditions weren't the best as there were solar storms
resulting in radio blackouts for more than a week now. However, Mystery R.
was coming in so I decided to give it a try anyway. Activity has really
declined in the last 2 years, no doubt due to all the raids. Now, it seems
only about 5 or so stations are heard on average (prior to the morning
fade-out) compared to about twice that 2 years ago.

RX: NRD-535D
ANT: Beverage of 300' at 40 degrees.
QTH: State Game Lands #26.
Duration: 0550-0905 UTC
Solar Indices: Solar Flux = 129 A Index = 1, and K Index = 2. Space
weather was minor with R1
radio blackouts.
WX: Clear, starry, and cool. 47 degrees (8 C.)

7480.11 Mystery R., 0554-0812, "Little Lies" by Fleetwood Mac at t/in, and
more Pop mx. 0600 usual ID jingle (not the one with "Thriller"). "Uptown
Girl" by Billy Joel at 0622 recheck. Fair, clear, and readable, but not
nearly as strong as //6220.04. Drifting upwards; 7480.15 by 0705, and
7480.18 by 0812. (7 Nov.)

6290.66 UNID., Someone definitely here at 0702 w/M anncr tlking in what
sounded like an EG accent. Into mx at 0703. Very weak w/intermittent
pulsing UTE QRM. Faded quickly after those first initial minutes and
barely an audible het. Anyone else hear this?? (7 Nov.)

6540.35 A very weak het here at 0714. Bridgette maybe?? Much too weak to
get audio if indeed him. (7 Nov.)

6305.58 R. Scotland Int., 0720-0806, Big open carrier at 0720 t/in. Mx
started at 0723:13 w/unrecog. Rock song. Getting better by 0725 and
drifting down just a tad. 0725 "Magical Mystery Tour" by The
Beatles. 0730 M anncr w/"RSI" IDs even spelled phonetically. Also e-mail
address and P.O. Box 8, Beilen address. 0736 anmnt w/song anmnt, ID "OK,
ah, this is RSI, R. Scotland Int. north of Holland...RSI, output
mainly...80 to 90 watts ??80, 40 watts, upgrade to..." and went on to
mention he had to improve something. Mentioned Internet, gave phone as
31-658409736, followed by another ID and "good morning". 0741 anmnt again
ment of November, good morning, Beilen phonetically in EG and GM letters,
e-mail address. 0744 "Get Back" by The Beatles, 0747 "Atomic Punk" by Van
Halen. 0750 anmnt mentioned Beilen Holland again, phonetics. Started
"Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones for about a minute then started it
over again!! 0757 anmnt mentioned RWI (prob. anniversary) and gave phone,
phonetics, and ID again. 0803 another anmnt w/"RSI" ID, mentioned Orion
R., etc. Tuned out at 0806, and was still there at 0815 recheck, but not
at 0816!! Then a signal showed up on 6305.86 at 0817. The MD ran out at
0821, and when I returned 0823 hrd a familiar 60's instru. song. Sounded
like anmnts in GM at 0824. Started a song at 0826, but then M came back
w/more anmnts. The song continued at 0828 and then the signal left the
air. Immediately after it went off, I found the signal on 6305.85
again!! Later, at 0844, as I was tuning through and stopped on the signal
on 6305.81, it suddenly went off!! I wonder if 6305.8 was Zender Digitaal
or Zender Scirocco (Achim Brueckner had both here in the 0820-0835 time
period). Could the other station have been listening to RSI and went on
the air when RSI went off?? RSI had a fairly decent signal but did suffer
from a little quick QSB. It also had the usual gradual morning
fade. Peaked around 0740. The music audio was a bit low and the voice
modulation was somewhat distorted. (7 Nov.)

6218.87 LHH, 0755, Oldie. M anncr. //4025.33. Pretty nice signal at
this time. 7464.91 fianlly coming up to audible lvl, // other freqs. Addr
at 0847. (7 Nov.)

6262.72 Alfa Lima Int., Alfred at 0835, but nasty UTE moving over the freq
at this time. Recognized "Tainted Love" at 0841, then anmnts by Alfred at
0842 w/an ID at 0843. Weak signal, no doubt because of the later
start. (7 Nov.)

6304.84 UNID., A signal found here at 0849. Thought I could hear strains
of mx. Just too weak. Still there at 0905. Zender Digitaal maybe?? (7 Nov.)

6274.91 Just a het here at 0901, but much too late and too weak. (7 Nov.)

21864.68 Alfa Lima Int. 1520-1554, Techno-Dance mx, 1524 Alfred tlk abt
the ALI Web site, ment of Chris Collins and David Hodgson, ID "This is Alfa
Lima Int. from the Netherlands". Cont. mx. 1534 Alfred ID, greetings to
yours truly, another ID, ment "Might be some fading out, I'm not sure...I
wonder how long it keeps...", ID, into song "Game Over". Either bad fade
or gone at 1554. Very nice on peaks, but almost nothing during f/outs. (7
Nov.)

21873.6 UNID. 1620-1734*, Thought I hrd mx at t/in. Decent strength but
if indeed modulated, it was really low. Didn't suffer from the QSB like
ALI, so maybe just something local. As I flipped the receiver back on at
1734, this went off!! (7 Nov.)

And that's the report for this week. Hope to be back with another report
next weekend.
